Hi, I’m Makenna Larson! I’m a dually Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist in Minnesota and Wisconsin providing compassionate trauma-informed therapy for adults (18+).

Grief Counseling

Grief isn’t something to get over, it’s something we carry with us. In therapy, I provide a space where you can feel your grief fully, be seen without judgment, and learn how to live with loss while still caring for yourself and living a meaningful and fulfilling life. Sessions are focused on helping you explore ways to navigate the daily challenges grief brings, honor your memories, and find moments of connection and meaning in your life again.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy offers a supportive, compassionate space to break unhelpful patterns, heal past wounds, and move toward a more authentic and resilient life. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for change, therapy provides an opportunity to slow down, feel heard, and better understand yourself. Sessions focus on emotional exploration, validation, and practical tools to help you navigate grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, perfectionism, and people-pleasing patterns.

ART Therapy

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a trauma-informed approach that helps your brain process painful memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which often focuses on discussing and analyzing experiences over time, ART works directly with how memories and emotions are stored in the brain using bilateral stimulation. Many clients experience relief and a sense of empowerment in just one to a few sessions, making ART a helpful option for those experiencing PTSD, grief, anxiety, and depression, or for anyone feeling stuck in patterns shaped by past experiences.

Perinatal Therapy

I provide supportive, trauma-informed therapy for parents and caregivers navigating pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. Topics often include adjusting to new parenting roles, shifts in identity, relationship changes, anxiety or depression, intrusive thoughts, anger or overwhelm, balancing expectations, fertility challenges, miscarriage or infant loss, and rediscovering moments of joy and fulfillment during early parenthood.

Meet Makenna

You’re doing everything you can, and somehow it still feels like it’s not enough. You may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or stretched in ways you never expected. Whether you’re navigating grief, trauma, pregnancy, postpartum, or the demands of parenting, this is a space where you don’t have to pretend you’re okay. You’re allowed to be honest about how heavy things feel and have someone there to support you through it. I provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and relatable therapy that feels genuine with a focus on helping you care for yourself while caring for others.

I believe healing happens through safe, supportive relationships. Using a relational approach, I help clients feel seen and supported. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to support clients in processing their emotions, identifying their needs, and developing self-compassion.

If you’re carrying grief, have recently experienced a significant loss, healing from trauma, or navigating the complexities of the perinatal or postpartum period, it’s okay to seek support. Your mental health matters, and I’m here to support you whenever you’re ready to reach out.
